Reflections for the Week: Chaos
Have you ever felt caught up in the chaos?
You’ve probably seen in the media that things are a little, well…strange – if not terrifying – in the world at the moment.
Someone walked in to YouTube and shot a group of people.
London has overtaken New York for murders in the city this year.
All whilst Donald Trump wants to build a new golf course in Scotland.
You’d be forgiven if you got caught up in the melee by voicing your outrage. Because you have every right to do that.
But recognising chaos is a path to healing, not just ourselves but the world around us. It allows us to see what ‘is’ by taking a step back, allowing us to think clearer. And this is where Mindfulness can help.
Try this: The next time you find yourself feeling the urge to respond with a knee-jerk reaction, whether it’s an item in the news or something someone says – pause. Take three, slow deep breaths. Focus your attention on how every breath feels, experience the air as it moves in and out of your body. Allow your breath to return to a natural steady rhythm and then see if the world feels a bit calmer.
