Reflections for the Week: Joy
What does joy mean to you?
At this time of year, there is an expectation to be cheerful (and sociable). But that isn’t always easy, especially if we’re too busy or suffering with stress.
This is where mindfulness can help. Being mindful provides the opportunity to find moments of joy even when we are challenged by what life throws our way.
Here’s a strategy you could try:
Go for a walk and pay attention to the sights and sounds around you. Whether it’s a walk in the park, or on the way to the shops, see if you notice the birds singing, the appearance of the sky, and the colours of autumn leaves. What can you see, hear and smell? See if you can tune in to your environment and experience a moment of joy, just by connecting with nature.
