Reflections – Solitude

Reflections for the Week: Solitude

What comes to mind when you think of solitude? If it’s a scary notion, then you might find you keep yourself busy, always in people’s company, just to escape the idea of being alone.

But a certain amount of solitude can be healthy.

When we have time on our own it provides an opportunity to bring ourselves back to centre, to focus on what we need to recharge our batteries, or just have some well-earned rest.

What would you do with some alone-time? If you start thinking of all the things you should do, it may be time to stop and have some time to yourself.

Here’s something you could try:

Think of a place where you can be alone, a place that lends itself to sanctuary. It might be sat under a tree, spending time in a church, even an art gallery. Somewhere that’s not too busy but where you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of the moment. Go there and just ‘be’. Spend as much time as you feel you need there, and then reward yourself for taking time out for yourself.
